EDGAR COUNTY CLERK AND RECORDER OF DEEDS - STATE OF ILLINOIS

The Edgar County Clerk is elected by the people of Edgar County for a four year term as set forth in the Constitution of the State of Illinois. In counties of less than 60,000, the County Clerk shall also serve as the Recorder of Deeds.

Becky Kraemer Edgar County Clerk & RecorderThe current Edgar County Clerk & Recorder, Rebecca R. “Becky” Kraemer, began working in the County Clerk’s Office in 1970. She was elected to office in November, 1990 and re-elected in 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006.

“Becky” holds memberships in the Illinois Association of County Clerks and Recorders (IACCR), Illinois Association of County Officials (IACO), National Association of County Recorders, Election Officials and Clerks (NACRC) and the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers (IACREOT). She has served in every office of Zone III Clerks and Recorders and has at various times served on the State Board of Election Advisory Committee. She currently serves as a member of the IACCR Legislative Committee and Elections Committee and is Chairman of the By-Laws and Resolutions Committee. In 2000, she was elected “County Clerk and Recorder Official of the Year” and went on to be chosen the “2000 County Official of the Year” by the Illinois Association of County Officials.

The operating Budget of the County Clerk & Recorder's Office is over $261,000.

Current staff of the County Clerk & Recorder’s Office consists of four full-time employees and one part-time employee as follows:

► Tami - - Deputy, Tax Extensions and Voter Registration
► Donna - - Deputy, Vital Records; Ethics; Delinquent Taxes
► Corrie - - Deputy, Retirement Fund and Insurance

General duties of the County Clerk & Recorder fall under five basis divisions, along with being the custodian of other various types of records: Clerk of County Board, Elections, Tax Extensions, Vital Records and Recording.

My staff and I take seriously the responsibility of keeping your records maintained, preserved and protected for your future use, whether it is your voter registration record, birth record, marriage record or the deed to your home. These records and many other documents that we maintain are important to you; and, it is important to us to see that they are preserved for your use in accordance to law.

The County Clerk is also the Election Authority for the County and, as such, is responsible for all voter registration records and the conduct of elections for all units of government. We work hard to maintain the registration rolls to insure a voter’s eligibility to cast a ballot and to secure the tabulation process so that your vote is properly counted.

Vital Records are not open to the public.

Records may be viewed during hours when the Court House is open, Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
